The IT Academy will become the centerpiece in our effort to grow and develop talent within the UChicago IT community.
A world-class research institution requires world-class IT professionals. A critical part of sustainable IT is identifying and cultivating leadership from within the University’s own IT community. In addition, technology is a dynamic, fluid domain that only moves faster over time. Not surprisingly, the jobs IT staff have today will demand new skills tomorrow.
Building on the grassroots IT Connects program, the IT Academy is an IT enterprise-wide initiative focused on investing in the growth of IT professionals throughout the University. IT Academy will provide a formal, multi-year, self-paced, continuous development program, inclusive of on-boarding; core productivity skills development; management and leadership training; and project, skill, and technology-specific development needs. The program will include mechanisms to track progress and measure growth of each participant.
A world class research institution requires world class IT professionals. The IT Academy will help cultivate a culture of lifelong learning for members of the UChicago IT community.
A critical part of sustainable IT is identifying and cultivating leadership from within our own community. Through programs designed to identify, develop, and nurture IT leaders, the academy will build the continuity and shared sense of excellence that UChicago deserves.
Technology is a dynamic, fluid domain that only moves faster over time. Not surprisingly, the jobs we have today will demand new skills tomorrow. The IT Academy will provide a framework for us to chart that pathway together.
The IT Academy is in the early design phase. Look for the release of an initial framework in late-2017.
Lynda Foundational Courses
Our campus subscription to Lynda.com will allow us to create an entry-level curriculum, providing the UChicago IT community with access to free, high quality training, and support a standard foundational knowledge for all IT professionals.
Topics will include IT service delivery, IT security basics, communications basics, and other associated entry-level topics. As we begin curriculum development specific courses will be identified.
IT Academy Badging
As part of the IT Academy, we plan to provide a series of badges that will certify course completion and attainment of skill. IT Academy intends to use Credly as our online badging partner. To learn more about badges, visit the Credly website.
